Epic Games partners with Mistral to offer model-backed asset generation in Unreal Editor

The integration surfaces a contextual panel where artists can generate texture variations, procedural props, and LOD-aware meshes by providing semantic prompts and reference images. Outputs respect artist-specified constraints like tiling, UV layout, and PBR compatibility.

Epic and Mistral collaborated to ensure outputs fit into Unreal's pipeline: generated assets come with metadata for LOD budgets, recommended collision meshes, and suggested packing for atlas maps. There are export presets for game platforms to keep runtime budgets predictable.

Epic emphasized artist control: generation results are layered as editable nodes in the content browser, not blind replacements, enabling iteration and blending with handcrafted assets. The partnership is currently in private alpha with release timelines tied to community feedback.
