Epic Games releases MetaHuman Dialogue AI plug-in for Unreal Engine

The MetaHuman Dialogue AI plug-in streams constrained language model outputs and ties them directly to Unreal's facial animation pipeline. Dialogue is produced alongside viseme cues so characters speak with synchronized mouth and expression animations while remaining bounded by game rules.
Developers can author persona profiles and memory windows to shape NPC consistency. Epic also built moderation hooks and fallback strategies to avoid unsafe or off-mood responses, and includes network reconciliation components for multiplayer games to ensure consistent dialogue playback.
The plug-in ships with sample scripts for branching narratives, live-service chat interactions, and procedurally-generated side quests. Epic emphasized the importance of combining LLMs with deterministic story scaffolding to preserve narrative integrity.
