Fables raises $12M to build a narrative AI for game designers
Gaming · 3 min read
Fables' engine takes authored beats, character traits, and player choices to generate coherent branching dialogue and quest descriptions that remain consistent across playthroughs. The company says its models are fine‑tuned on annotated game scripts rather than general web data.
The seed round was led by Makers Fund with participation from Epic Games' investment arm and angel investments from several veteran narrative directors. Fables will use the money to expand its dataset, launch studio partnerships, and integrate with popular engines like Unity and Unreal.
Early partners include two mid‑sized RPG studios piloting Fables in preproduction; both reported faster iteration on branching arcs and better consistency checks. The product is entering closed beta with an invite list starting today.
