Figma 2026.2 adds native AI layer for design system harmonization and token inference

The 2026.2 release brings a native AI-driven inspector that scans files to propose consolidated tokens for colors, typography, spacing and elevation. The assistant highlights duplicates and suggests a canonical token map, optionally creating a new shared library to replace inconsistent local styles.

Figma emphasizes that token inference runs locally in the desktop app by default, with an option to use cloud processing for large organization scans. The UI for proposed changes includes diffs and a rollback timeline, giving teams explicit control over mass updates.

Plugin authors will get API hooks to integrate the token assistant into CI workflows, making it easier to validate that new components comply with the agreed token set. Designers we spoke with said the feature could cut down token drift in large files, which is a recurring pain point for enterprise-scale systems.
