Figma 2026.2 brings real-time AI tokens and variable styles to desktop
Design · 4 min read
The new release introduces an AI token generator that analyzes a file’s color, type, and spacing patterns to propose a token set, naming conventions, and token groupings. Tokens can be previewed and accepted in bulk, and Figma automatically maps existing components to suggested tokens to minimize manual refactors.
Variable styles let designers create responsive tokens that adapt to density, locale, or brand variants, making it easier to maintain multiple theming layers from a single source of truth. Teams can define rules (for example, type scale multipliers for accessibility) and Figma enforces them when components are updated.
Figma has also improved enterprise sync: real-time token updates can be published to design systems with staged releases and rollback capabilities. Designers praised the speed of onboarding new collaborators and the reduction in token drift during cross-product workstreams.
