Figma adds Generative Components 2.0 with on-device LLM
Design · 4 min read
Generative Components 2.0 uses a compact, optimized LLM that runs inside Figma Desktop to propose component variations, responsive constraints, and content-aware copy. Designers can prompt variations while keeping their files offline, a feature Figma positions for regulated industries.
The update adds a design token reconciliation engine that maps generated variants back to an existing token system, so teams avoid unwanted token proliferation. Figma also expanded permissions controls for generated content, letting design leads require approval before components propagate to shared libraries.
Figma released a migration guide and sample workflows that show how to incorporate Generative Components into existing design systems. Third-party plugin authors get a new sandboxed API to call the on-device model, with usage telemetry respecting team privacy settings.
