Figma adds generative vector layers and versioned prompt history in major UI update

Figma’s new generative vector layers allow AI-produced content to exist as editable vector objects rather than flattened raster inserts. Users can ask Figma’s assistant for variations of a button, icon or illustration and the results appear as fully editable vector groups with constraints and componentization preserved.

The company also introduced versioned prompt history: every generative request is saved alongside the usual version timeline so teams can revert not only to a prior visual state but also to the exact prompt and model parameters used. This change addresses a long-standing pain point for design teams trying to audit or standardize AI-generated assets.

Figma said the features will be available to all paid teams and that third-party model integrations are supported via a new plugin API. The update comes as Figma tightens collaboration with enterprise governance tools and expands its library controls for AI-generated material.
