Figma introduces Live Auto-Layout: responsive components adapt in real time
Design ยท 4 min read
Live Auto-Layout applies predictive adjustments to components as a designer edits text, images, or constraints, using a background service to suggest optimal spacing and alignment. The feature blends heuristics with lightweight machine learning models trained on public UI patterns and anonymized Figma files.
Designers can accept individual suggestions, apply them globally across a component library, or train the model on their own brand system to preserve voice and spacing rules. Figma also added undo granularity so suggested changes can be fine-tuned without disrupting the overall edit history.
Figma says Live Auto-Layout is rolling out to enterprise accounts this month, with a broader release planned after feedback from cross-functional design teams. Early adopters report fewer pixel-hunting cycles and smoother handoffs to engineering.
