Figma July update adds AI-driven layout retargeting and real-time code snippets

Figma rolled out a major update aimed at reducing friction in responsive design handoffs. The new layout retargeting feature uses a model trained on component hierarchies to automatically reflow artboards across device sizes while preserving constraints and accessibility rules. Designers can apply retargeting to entire pages or selected frames and preview multiple adaptation strategies before committing changes.
In tandem, Figma added a live code snippet sidebar that shows framework-ready snippets (React, SwiftUI, Flutter) mapped to selected components. Snippets are generated with context awareness about props and design tokens, and they sync when components are updated. Figma says this reduces the back-and-forth during handoff, especially for small tweaks like spacing, color tokens, and accessible aria attributes.
The update also includes new plugin APIs for AI assistants and an official "design differ" engine that highlights semantic changes across versions. Figma's product team stressed that the model predictions are surfaced as suggestions, not automatic commits, keeping the designer in control of final decisions.
