Figma launches Component Labs: AI-driven system building inside the editor

Component Labs scans a team’s files, infers common patterns, and proposes consolidated components with suggested variants, token mappings, and prop interfaces. Designers can accept, refine, or reject proposals and preview how new components affect existing pages, reducing manual cleanup work.

The feature includes an AI naming assistant that follows a team's existing conventions and a documentation generator that creates usage guidelines and accessibility notes. Figma says Component Labs runs lightweight inference locally for privacy-sensitive tasks while heavier consolidation runs in the cloud.

Early adopters report a sharp reduction in duplicated components and faster onboarding for new hires, though some teams want finer-grained control over variant merging. Figma plans integrations with popular design token managers and repository workflows later this year.
