Figma launches generative layout engine and version-aware components

The generative layout engine in Figma accepts prompts like 'two-column dashboard for analytics with accent chart' and produces multiple responsive drafts that designers can remix. Generated layouts include semantic tokens and accessibility suggestions, making it easier to prototype without starting from a blank canvas.

Alongside generation, Figma introduced version-aware components: components now retain lineage metadata so teams can understand how a button or card evolved across releases. The system surfaces breaking changes, usage counts, and suggested migrations when teams update shared components.

Figma says these features are designed to speed early-stage exploration and to reduce the cognitive load of maintaining large design systems. The company is also adding collaborative review workflows for generated proposals, letting product and engineering weigh in before changes hit production components.
