Figma plugin ecosystem opens native AI plugin API for on-device inference

The new API gives plugin authors access to a secure sandbox where lightweight models can run against selected frames or layers without sending data to remote servers. Figma hopes this will boost adoption of privacy-first tools for client work and regulated industries.

Plugin developers can also register model metadata, capability declarations, and permission flows so users explicitly know when a plugin requires more data or network access. Figma added a marketplace filter for on-device-capable plugins to make discovery easier.

Early plugins target auto-layout fixes, color-contrast remediation, and image-sensitive anonymization. Figma emphasized that this is the first step toward broader edge AI capabilities inside the design canvas.
