Figma ships native generative fill with layer-aware suggestions and review history

The new generative fill in Figma works directly on selected layers, offering content-aware fills that respect masks, blend modes, and component constraints. Designers can prompt the model with natural language or choose from style presets, and Figma returns multiple variants aligned to the selected layer's properties.
A key addition is the edit history panel that records AI-generated changes as discrete, named actions. Teams can revert individual AI edits, compare alternatives side-by-side, and add comments tied to specific generations, improving collaboration and accountability.
Figma says the feature runs inference in their cloud with options for enterprise customers to route requests through customer-managed endpoints. The company also released an API so plugin authors can build workflows that combine generative fills with design tokens and automated accessibility checks.
