Figma unveils VectorAssist, an on-device vector design model for faster iterations

Figma released VectorAssist, a lightweight model trained on millions of vector shapes and interface layouts to suggest path simplifications, consistent corner radii, and autolayout fixes in real time. Unlike cloud-only assistants, VectorAssist runs locally in the desktop app or in the browser tab sandbox, reducing latency and privacy concerns for enterprise users.

The model integrates into existing inspector panels, surfacing ranked suggestions for simplifying paths, merging redundant nodes, and proposing responsive autolayout constraints. Designers can accept, tweak, or reject suggestions, and VectorAssist learns from those choices across the team to improve future proposals.

Figma also launched a developer API that lets plugin authors call VectorAssist capabilities for custom automation. The company said the model will be free for all teams during a six-month trial, with advanced team-learning features part of an upcoming paid plan.
