Framer adds native Android playback and APK export for rapid device testing

Framer announced native Android playback and one-click APK export in its latest release, enabling prototypes to run as installable apps on Android devices. Designers can now produce prototypes with native gestures, haptics, and performance characteristics and hand an APK to PMs or external testers without a developer build step.

The APK export respects Framer's runtime components and linked assets, and includes an optional diagnostic layer that profiles frame rates and animation timing. Teams can toggle compressed asset bundles or keep unminified assets for debugging. Framer also added a permission preview that flags prototype elements that simulate camera or location access so test participants know what they're interacting with.

Product teams say the update shrinks iteration cycles: user research sessions no longer require tethered laptops or cumbersome sharing workflows, and user feedback reflects more realistic interaction patterns. For engineering handoff, Framer clarifies which interactions are high-fidelity expectations versus exploratory animations, reducing implementation rework.
