From Scroll to Search: A B2B SaaS Redesign That Halved Time-to-Task

Users were spending minutes scrolling through dense lists and filtering repeatedly to perform common tasks. Product analytics showed repetitive patterns where the same filters and sorts were applied across sessions. The backlog and engineering roadmaps pushed for features, but the real problem was discoverability and the friction of locating data.

The team prototyped a find-first interface: a universal quick-search that accepted natural language queries and saved smart filters, paired with contextual action shortcuts tailored to user roles. Lazy-loading summaries replaced full list rendering so results were fast. The design included keyboard shortcuts and remembered previous queries to support power users.

After gradual rollout to beta customers, average time-to-task dropped by ~50% and usage of keyboard shortcuts grew steadily. Customer support cases requesting help with basic searches fell by a third. The redesign demonstrated that introducing a search-first pattern can unlock productivity in information-dense B2B products without adding heavy new features.
