GameSmith raises $40M Series B and debuts 'Narrator AI' for real-time NPC authoring
Gaming · 5 min read
Narrator AI enables designers to script high-level goals and constraints while AI models generate dialogue, micro-behaviors, and adaptive decision trees in live sessions. GameSmith positions the tool as a way to scale narrative depth without ballooning writer headcount.
The $40 million Series B was led by Meridian Growth with participation from several strategic gaming publishers. GameSmith says the funding will expand model training on proprietary game corpora and improve runtime performance for console and cloud titles.
Narrator AI includes a visual authoring interface for branching emotional states and tooling to simulate large NPC crowds while preserving narrative coherence. The platform supports rollback and snapshotting for QA and iterative tuning.
Several AAA and mid-tier studios are in the pilot program, testing Narrator AI for companion NPCs and background characters. GameSmith plans a commercial release with runtime SDKs for engines in late 2026.
