Game teams have historically treated accessibility as a late-stage checklist, but a growing number of studios now integrate accessibility tokens directly into their UI design systems. These tokens control palette variants for deuteranopia and protanopia, adaptive UI scaling checkpoints, and remapped control labels that feed into in-game help and tutorials.

By making accessibility settings first-class tokens, engineers and designers can parameterize UI layouts and HUD elements so they adapt without bespoke patches. For example, a tokenized HUD spacing system allows elements to reflow when players enable large text or controller-assist overlays, keeping important information visible and non-overlapping.

This approach reduces QA overhead and leads to more consistent player experiences across platforms. Studios also benefit commercially: accessible release builds broaden audience reach and reduce the need for post-launch accessibility updates, which are expensive and disrupt polished gameplay loops.
