Gaming Studios Increase UI/UX Salaries to Compete with Mobile and AAA Talent
Gaming · 5 min read
Multiple mid-size and AAA gaming studios reported recent salary increases for UI/UX and systems designers, driven by competition with mobile and tech companies hiring game-adjacent talent. Designers who have shipped live-service systems, monetization flows, and cross-platform interfaces command the biggest premiums.
The demand is particularly strong for multiplayer and social features design, where user retention directly influences revenue. Studios are offering higher base pay plus performance-linked bonuses and more generous equity for senior design hires in order to retain talent that can scale live ecosystems.
Smaller indie teams are feeling the squeeze and are increasingly offering flexible schedules, revenue shares, or remote work to compete. Recruiters say strong portfolios that demonstrate measurable impact on retention and monetization remain the most effective leverage in negotiations.
