Gaming Studios Raise Senior UX Salaries to Compete with Big Tech for Live Ops Talent

Mid-size and indie studios focused on live-service games are increasing compensation for senior UX and live-ops designers, citing the revenue sensitivity of retention and monetization features. Designers with analytics fluency and A/B testing experience now command salaries close to consumer app counterparts.

Studios told SatisfiedUser that they’re also offering revenue-sharing bonuses, profit-based incentives, and short-term contract incentives to retain designers during peak live events. This approach narrows the historical pay gap between game design and broader tech product roles.

However, smaller teams still struggle to match benefits and stability offered by big publishers. Some studios are countering by highlighting creative control, credit opportunities, and clearer paths to leadership—non-monetary levers that appeal to many designers.
