Google adds Figma plugin generator into Material Design pipeline
Design · 4 min read
The new integration lets designers mark components in Figma and generate Material tokens, CSS variables, and Android XML styles with a single command. The tool guesses responsive behavior and suggests breakpoint rules based on the component's constraints and variants.
Google also provides an automated migration assistant that helps convert older Material implementations to the new token format, flagging accessibility issues like contrast and touch target sizes. The plugin supports collaborative annotations so designers can attach intent and usage guidelines that travel with exported artifacts.
Early adopters say the pipeline reduces handoff friction, especially for teams working across web and Android. Google plans to expand the generator to support iOS and Flutter code outputs later in the year.
