Google debuts Gemini Nano Designer for on-device UI suggestions in Android and Chrome

Google's Gemini Nano Designer is the latest offshoot of its Gemini family, engineered to run efficiently on-device for fast, private assistance. The model offers micro-suggestions like alternative CTA phrasing, icon swaps, and spacing tweaks directly within Chrome DevTools and Android Studio preview panes.

By keeping inference local, Google aims to serve designers who frequently test prototypes on devices without routing proprietary designs through cloud APIs. The Nano Designer supports prompt chaining and a small on-device cache for user preferences, allowing it to learn style tendencies without user data leaving the device.

Google is partnering with third-party design tool vendors to support embedding the model in desktop and mobile tooling. The initial rollout targets Pixel and select flagship Android devices with Tensor silicon, with a staged expansion to Chrome-based desktops later this year.
