Google DeepMind releases 'Gemini-Design' extensions for automated usability testing
AI · 4 min read
Gemini-Design analyzes interactive prototypes and synthesizes usability tests, including task descriptions, expected success criteria, and suggested metrics. The extension can also generate think-aloud scripts and automated A/B test hypotheses based on detected UI friction points.
DeepMind framed the tool as a way to democratize usability expertise across product teams, and it exposes confidence scores and recommended sample sizes for each test. The extension integrates with popular testing platforms to export scripts and recruit criteria.
Researchers noted that automated test generation will not replace human moderators but will help teams iterate faster on test design and focus moderation efforts. DeepMind will publish validation studies comparing automated suggestions to expert heuristics over the coming months.
