Google introduces Gemini DesignAssistant plugin for Figma

Gemini DesignAssistant aims to speed the gap from concept to component by offering contextual suggestions inside Figma: designers can highlight groups to receive responsive layout variants, request component props, or get platform-specific code snippets. The plugin offers an accessibility inspector that reports contrast ratios and suggests palette swaps that preserve brand intent.

The plugin includes a 'Design Intent' mode that extracts high-level goals from a mockup and proposes prioritized implementation tasks—copy updates, componentization candidates, and interaction specs. Generated code supports React, Flutter, and Web Components, with toggleable fidelity to Material Design guidelines.

Google said the tool will be available to enterprise customers first, with broader rollouts planned after collecting early feedback. The company emphasized integration with Cloud-based asset storage and versioning to ease handoffs to engineering teams.
