Google launches Gemini for Design API to streamline creative workflows
Tech · 6 min read
Gemini for Design extends Google's Gemini family with models fine-tuned on design corpora—component libraries, design system docs, and annotated UI screenshots. The API supports requests that return layered assets, token maps, and accessibility annotations alongside images.
The integration into Workspace lets product teams generate design briefs, asset variants, and creative decks directly inside Slides and Docs, with one-click exports to Figma. Google emphasizes collaboration primitives, enabling designers to propose multiple layout variants and collect comments inline.
Privacy and governance controls are prominent: organizations can enforce domain-only model access, filter exports for PII, and set style guardrails. Google also announced “Design Cards,” prebuilt prompt templates for common tasks like onboarding flows, checkout UX, and error states to speed iteration.
