Google releases Gemini App SDK to accelerate on-device multimodal features

The Gemini App SDK packages model runtimes, tokenizer utilities, and a multimodal input pipeline tailored for Android devices. It supports text, image, and audio inputs and includes utilities for assistant-style interactions and contextual prompts.

Developers can choose between cloud-assisted and on-device modes and use the model selector API to balance latency, cost, and privacy. Built-in safety filters and moderation hooks are included to help apps comply with policy and provide graceful fallback behavior.

Google also introduced a companion analytics dashboard for allowed telemetry and model usage, along with sample integrations for messaging, camera apps, and productivity tools. The SDK is part of Google's broader push to bring generative features into mainstream Android experiences.
