Google releases Gemini Design API to auto-generate cross-platform components
Tech · 6 min read
Designers or automation pipelines submit a high-level component definition and the API returns idiomatic implementations for multiple frameworks, complete with accessibility metadata and suggested unit tests. Gemini Design API can produce adaptive layouts and media queries for responsive contexts.
Google provides client libraries and reference integrations with Figma and Android Studio, allowing teams to roundtrip changes between design and code. The service includes schema validation and a visual diff tool to compare generated outputs across platforms.
Google positions the API as a complement to design systems rather than a replacement, encouraging teams to treat generated code as a starting point for performance tuning and platform-specific polish. Enterprise plans include on-prem deployment options for regulated customers.
