Google releases Gemini Pro-Lite for edge design tooling

Gemini Pro-Lite is a trimmed-down variant of Google's Gemini family designed for efficient edge inference. Google positions it as a model optimized for design workflows running in desktop apps or plugins where low latency and privacy are essential.

The SDK includes bindings for C++ and Electron, making it easier to embed the model into native apps, Figma desktop plugins, and UI prototyping tools. Google demonstrated examples like instant icon generation, layout suggestions, and content-aware layout resizing with sub-second response times.

Privacy and offline capabilities are a major selling point, with Google offering an option to run the model fully locally on M1/M2 machines and some Windows devices. Licensing includes per-seat enterprise plans and developer-friendly tiers for indie toolmakers.
