Google rolls out Gemini 2 Pro with native vector search for design systems

Gemini 2 Pro, Google says, is designed to serve enterprise design teams by indexing visual assets, component metadata, and documentation into a unified vector space. The model supports semantic queries like 'find blue button variants with rounded corners used in mobile checkout' and returns ranked assets with provenance and usage context.

The release includes a hosted vector database, prebuilt indexers for Figma and Google Drive, and a new API for embedding custom heuristics to prioritize accessibility or brand compliance. Product managers can now ask the model for a 'least disruptive' redesign path that uses existing tokens and components across multiple platforms.

Google emphasized enterprise controls: role-based access, audit logs for retrievals, and the ability to restrict search to approved libraries. Some design teams praised the time saved locating reusable components, while others cautioned about the risk of overly relying on similarity search instead of fresh design thinking.
