Android 17 beta showcases Material Design 4, which focuses on composability and accessibility. New system components include stacked cards, adaptive motion tokens, and a richer set of input controls for forms and lists.
Dynamic theming gets deeper integration across third-party apps via a theme token API, letting apps declare adaptive surfaces and typography that respond to user-selected palettes. Google also added a wallpaper-driven color extraction engine that supports multiple dominant colors instead of a single accent.
Accessibility received attention with system-level contrast toggles, per-element motion reduction, and live preview in developer tools. Google encourages developers to test with the new emulator and updated Material Theming Kit to ensure consistent behavior across device classes.
