Google Workspace launches Gemini Collab with design token synchronization
Tech · 4 min read
Gemini Collab uses an embedded token registry that can be referenced inside Google Docs and Slides to ensure colors, spacing, and typography match the canonical design system. The registry supports two-way sync with tools like Figma and Sketch so changes propagate out of source-of-truth files.
The product also embeds an AI assistant that suggests token updates when documents diverge from the registry, offering an approval workflow to apply changes. Gemini Collab aims to reduce the common drift that happens when marketing and product collateral evolve independently.
Google emphasized enterprise controls for approval chains, audit history, and exportable token manifests so engineering teams can consume tokens in build pipelines. Early enterprise trials highlighted fewer branding inconsistencies in external presentations and faster refresh cycles for living documentation.
