Google's Material You gets dynamic AI theming driven by generative color models

The new theming feature analyzes content, user-preferred tones, and brand constraints to propose palettes that balance contrast, vibrancy, and legibility. Designers can lock key brand colors while letting the model generate secondary palettes that scale across light and dark modes.
Material You's tooling now includes a preview surface that simulates component behavior under generated themes and flags accessibility issues like insufficient contrast or problematic hue combinations. Theme generation can be run on-device for privacy or in the cloud for richer suggestions.
Google framed this as an evolution of adaptive design systems, reducing manual tuning required for multi-theme product families. The feature is rolling out to developers via updates to Material Design libraries and associated design tool plugins.
