The model is a distilled version of PaLM 3 with specific training on UI/UX patterns and iconography.

Google is partnering with several design tooling vendors to embed PaLM 3 Small as an optional local inference engine. The company highlights reduced latency, improved privacy and offline capability as core benefits. Early trials show promising results for tasks like label rewriting and microinteraction descriptions.

Google will make the model available under a permissive developer license for integration into commercial tools, while providing guidance on hallucination mitigation and evaluation benchmarks specific to design tasks. The move is expected to accelerate the proliferation of AI assistants directly inside design applications.
