Helio Unveils Solar-Charging Ultralight Laptop for Field Designers

Helio’s Solis Laptop is a 13-inch machine that pairs a lightweight magnesium chassis with a thin, integrated solar panel embedded into the lid. The company claims the panel can add up to two hours of runtime in full sun and that the laptop optimizes power by offloading background tasks to a low-power co-processor.

The Solis also ships with a monochrome E-ink status display for scheduling, battery and offline notifications to conserve power. Helio positioned the device for use cases that require long, off-grid uptime — environmental fieldwork, remote creative shoots and travel-heavy design teams.

Helio is opening pre-orders with a targeted ship date in Q4 and offers an enterprise bundle with ruggedized cases and extended service. Pricing starts at a premium compared with typical ultraportables, but the company argues total cost of ownership is lower for customers who often work off-grid.
