When a niche marketplace for refurbished lab equipment hit friction in conversion funnels, the product team hypothesized choice overload was a key blocker. The platform had been showing 24 items per grid page with dense specs; engagement metrics suggested users scrolled a long way but rarely clicked through. The team designed a hypothesis: fewer, higher-quality surface items with richer signals would increase click-through and purchase intent.
The redesign reduced the grid to 8 curated cards per page and introduced three new surface elements: seller trust badges, a short explainer of warranty terms, and a prominent “compare” affordance. The team ran a 4-week A/B test with randomized traffic split and tracked micro-conversions — card clicks, add-to-compare, and checkout starts — while monitoring long-term supplier exposure impacts.
