Junior UX salaries climb but equity offers lag behind, new hiring signals show
Tech · 4 min read
A hiring pulse across North American tech hubs shows junior UX and interaction designers received base salary raises averaging 7–9% compared with 2025. Recruiters attribute the rise to sustained volume hiring at platforms and smaller companies flooding the market for product talent.
Despite the base growth, stock and RSU packages for early-career hires remain conservative. Startups and series B companies often reserve equity for senior roles, and many junior designers report receiving small, time-locked grants that vest over longer periods.
To compete, junior candidates are prioritizing roles that promise structured mentorship, clear promotion timelines, and experience with impact metrics rather than immediate equity upside. Several companies have begun offering signed growth plans or guaranteed promotion reviews at 12 months as part of the offer to offset modest equity.
For hiring teams, the recommendation is to make career progression visible in recruiting materials and to quantify learning opportunities. That clarity has become a differentiator for attracting strong early-career talent when direct financial upside is limited.
