LumaXR raises $45M to ship consumer AR glasses with optical design partners

LumaXR today revealed a $45 million Series A led by NEA alongside strategic manufacturing partners and seed investors. The company also announced the pre-order launch of Luma One, a lightweight pair of AR glasses designed for creators, on-site technicians, and educators.

Luma One features a waveguide optical system co-developed with an unnamed optics partner, dual RGB cameras for passthrough mixed reality, and a 12-hour battery life claim through a modular battery pack. The device runs a custom Android-based OS and ships with a toolkit for spatial UI controls and low-latency remote collaboration.

Investors told press they backed LumaXR because of its vertical integration strategy: the company controls hardware design, optics, and a low-level platform SDK that prioritizes power efficiency and developer ergonomics. LumaXR also announced an ecosystem fund to seed apps for enterprise training and creative production.

Industry observers note the market for consumer AR glasses remains nascent and competitive, with success hinging on developer adoption and a thin, comfortable form factor. LumaXR is betting its maker-focused SDK and partnerships with optics suppliers will accelerate usage in professional contexts before broader consumer uptake.
