LumenAI closes $80M Series B to launch real-time video understanding API

LumenAI today revealed an $80 million Series B led by Meridian Capital and Playback Ventures, meant to scale its edge inference infrastructure and global data partnerships. The financing arrives alongside the commercial launch of LumenStream, a real-time video understanding API designed to deliver object tracking, action recognition, and contextual summarization with sub-300ms pacing.

The company says LumenStream differs from bulk-batch competitors by pushing optimized transformer models to regional edge nodes, pairing model distillation with adaptive bitrate processing to keep latency low for live feeds. Early partners include two regional broadcast networks and a major stadium security integrator piloting the API on 120 live camera channels.

LumenAI plans to use the funding to expand its edge footprint, hire in MLOps and latency engineering, and launch a partner marketplace for prebuilt analytics packs (sports, retail, safety). Pricing will be usage-based with guaranteed SLAs for enterprise customers, and a free tier for developers to experiment with short clips.
