Marketplace Redesign: How CurioMarket Moved From Listings Clutter to Curated Feeds

CurioMarket faced a common marketplace problem: an abundance of listings overwhelmed casual buyers while power users could still find what they needed. The product team opted to surface curated feeds based on a blend of behavioral signals, editorial picks, and seller-promoted items, all accessible from a refreshed home experience.

Design decisions included introducing modular cards optimized for scannability, clearer affordances for saving and comparing items, and a lightweight filter panel that preserved the feed flow. They also implemented progressive onboarding for the feed, teaching users how to tune personalization and follow categories and sellers.

After the rollout, CurioMarket saw a 21% increase in items saved per session and a 14% reduction in time-to-purchase for new visitors. Sellers reported better conversion on featured placements, and the team created guardrails to prevent algorithmic feedback loops by including diversity metrics in the recommendation pipeline.
