Meta opens Horizon Worlds to cross-platform avatars and Unity SDK update
Gaming ยท 4 min read
Horizon Worlds now supports a universal avatar format that syncs appearance, animations, and basic emotes across Meta's headsets, desktops, and mobile companion apps. Avatars are stored in a cloud profile with user consent controls for which apps can access and display them, easing cross-device continuity.
Meta also published a Unity SDK that streamlines packaging interactive experiences for Horizon, including networking primitives optimized for low-latency social interactions. The SDK contains example templates for shared spaces, spectator modes, and moderated sessions.
Creators gain improved analytics dashboards showing cross-platform engagement and monetization splits, which helps studios decide where to prioritize feature parity. The crossplay and tooling updates reflect Meta's push to make Horizon more of an open social layer rather than a walled platform.
