Meta opens Threads' developer API with expanded embed and moderation hooks

The Threads API supports read-only embeds, publisher-rich cards with media previews, and real-time webhook notifications for mentions, replies and conversation highlights. This makes it easier for publishers and analytics platforms to surface conversational context alongside articles and podcasts.

Crucially, Meta included moderation hooks that let third parties receive flagged content events, apply custom filters, and surface appeal mechanisms. Data shared via the API is scoped to explicit consent and developer permissions to protect user privacy and limit broad scraping.

Meta also rolled out rate-limited write endpoints under a review program for verified apps that meet safety and spam controls. Early partners include newsroom tools and community moderation platforms that will use the webhooks to automate trust and safety workflows.
