Meta unveils crossplay API for cloud-streamed VR social games

Meta announced a crossplay API built for cloud-streamed VR games, allowing developers to unify matchmaking, session persistence, and player state across mixed clients. The API handles input remapping and interpolation so mobile cloud clients can join VR sessions without feature loss.
Core features include deterministic object synchronization, adaptive quality scaling, and a latency-aware predictive layer that smooths interactions between high- and low-latency clients. Meta also released sample integration for Unreal and Unity.
Game studios see this as a way to widen player bases without fragmenting communities. Meta plans to certify games that meet recommended parity and safety thresholds to receive prioritized cloud resources.
