Meta Unveils Realtime Avatar SDK for Horizon Worlds and Quest 4

Meta's new Avatar Sync SDK captures minimal facial and body telemetry from Quest devices and compatible AR glasses and maps it to highly detailed avatars in Horizon Worlds and third-party apps.
The SDK focuses on bandwidth-efficient animation, using landmark extraction and procedural lip-sync to keep bandwidth and compute low. It includes privacy-preserving defaults so raw face data stays local unless users opt in to share expressive streams.
For creators, Meta provided ready-made expression modules and a plug-in pipeline that converts motion-captured sequences into reusable behaviors. The SDK aims to lower the barrier for more lifelike social VR experiences while maintaining user control over data.
