MetaPlay Releases Cross-Platform Matchmaking API for Competitive Games
Gaming · 3 min read
MetaPlay released a managed matchmaking API that supports skill-based ranking, region-aware instance placement, and custom rule engines for queue logic. The service integrates with major game engines and provides SDKs for Unity, Unreal, and custom C++ servers.
A key differentiator is MetaPlay’s latency-aware region selection, which routes players based on competitive fairness rather than pure ping, factoring in packet loss and jitter. Developers can define bespoke ranking curves and anti-abuse measures while offloading operational headaches to MetaPlay.
Founder and CTO Simone Park said the product helps indie and mid-size studios ship competitive features without building complex server infrastructure. MetaPlay also announced partnerships with a few battle-royale and fighting-game studios to pilot pro-tier features like tournament brackets and spectator endpoints.
