Meta's Horizon Forge adds generative environment model for social VR worlds
Gaming · 5 min read
Horizon Forge's generative model can create entire themed environments from prompts like 'cozy café with indoor plants and acoustic zones', producing modular meshes, PBR materials, and lighting rigs optimized for VR performance. Environments are created as composable tiles for reuse across rooms.
The system supports runtime edits by creators in-world, allowing multi-user collaboration with conflict resolution and version history. Forge outputs are optimized for low-latency streaming to headsets and include baked lightmaps where needed.
Creators praised the speed of environment prototyping and the collaborative editing flow, though some privacy advocates raised concerns about moderation and content provenance for user-generated worlds. Meta said it will extend moderation tooling and content attribution features in upcoming releases.
