Microsoft Flight Simulator adds full controller remapping, HUD colorblind presets, and narration APIs

The controller remapping update lets players create aircraft-specific profiles and save them to cloud libraries, addressing a long-standing pain point where generic layouts broke critical workflows in complex planes. Remapping now supports chorded inputs and long-press behaviors, enabling alternative interaction models for players with limited dexterity.

HUD presets include Tritan, Deutan, and Protan palettes that designers created in consultation with color-vision experts; the simulator also exposes a high-contrast HUD mode and an adjustable HUD translucency token. Additionally, the new narration API allows third-party tools to read cockpit instrument states and flight warnings, letting developers build context-aware audio overlays for visually impaired pilots.

Community creators are already producing tutorial packs that combine simplified instrument panels, step-by-step audio checklists, and remapped control templates. Microsoft said these features will be expanded with telemetry-driven recommendations — the simulator may soon suggest HUD presets or control templates after first-flight diagnostics.
