Microsoft integrates Copilot Design into Figma and Sketch via official plugin
Tech · 4 min read
The Copilot Design plugin connects Microsoft 365 credentials to design tools and offers features like automated layout refactoring, component extraction into design system tokens, and contextual microcopy generation. The plugin also surfaces suggested accessibility fixes and generates developer-friendly annotations to accelerate handoff. Microsoft highlights single sign-on and admin controls for enterprise deployments.
A key capability is component extraction: the plugin analyzes existing files and generates reusable components with naming conventions and token mappings that export cleanly to Fluent UI and React. Teams can choose to sync changes to a centralized design system or maintain local variants. Microsoft also added an audit trail so design leads can review AI suggestions before they are merged into system libraries.
Some design teams welcomed integrated governance, while others raised concerns about vendor lock-in and the complexity of syncing multiple design system sources. Microsoft said the plugin supports open formats and includes migration tools to ease multi-vendor workflows.
