Nebula Games raises $60M and unveils Lyra, a cloud-native engine for live-service titles

Nebula Games, a middleware provider for online games, revealed Lyra, a cloud-first game engine designed to support distributed simulation, hot patching, and real-time analytics for live-service titles. Lyra includes native tools for sharding large worlds across regions, persistence layers for billions of objects, and a deployment pipeline tailored to continuous updates without shutdown.

The engine launch coincided with a $60 million funding round led by Benchmark, with strategic participation from several AAA publishers and cloud providers. The infusion will be used to expand Lyra's tooling, improve matchmaking and anti-cheat modules, and accelerate partnerships with console certification bodies.

Nebula says Lyra has already been adopted for three upcoming MMOs and a set of multiplayer simulators, praising the engine's telemetry stack that helps teams iterate on content and balance player economies without risky migrations. The company is offering a developer preview and commercial licensing options in Q4.
