Nebula Interactive lands $25M to develop AI-driven NPC behavior tools

Nebula Interactive secured $25 million in funding to scale a suite of tools that create AI-driven NPC behavior and dialogue systems. Developers can define high-level NPC roles and constraints while the platform generates reactive scripts, emotional state models, and context-aware responses.

The company highlights two benefits: dramatically reducing writer overhead for branching narratives and enabling emergent interactions that adapt to player choices. Nebula also provides guardrails to prevent inconsistent lore or game-breaking behavior by constraining generated actions to designer-defined policies.

Studios piloting the tech reported richer emergent events and improved player retention in early tests. Nebula offers runtime SDKs for integration into common engines and server-side components for persistence and audit logs.

The funding will support expansion of content moderation tools, localization features, and partnerships with middleware providers. Nebula plans to target mid-sized live-service studios that want to scale content without proportional increases in narrative staff.
