NestOS debuts modular smart home platform and raises $30M Series A

NestOS's modular platform allows manufacturers to compose runtime stacks from certified drivers and automation modules that operate locally by default, with cloud services optional. The company unveiled reference hardware that supports Zigbee, Matter, Thread, and Bluetooth LE, and emphasizes OTA update policies and secure pairing flows for end users.

The $30 million Series A was led by Blue Ridge Ventures, with strategic participation from several smart device OEMs. Funds will go toward certification testing, creating a developer portal, and building a marketplace for vetted automation modules.

Design teams highlighted the UX benefits of local-first automations—faster response times, predictable behavior during network outages, and clearer privacy disclosures. NestOS said it will provide design system components and UX patterns to ensure consistent experiences across partner devices.
